MORETONHAMPSTEAD RIDING CLUB NEWS

Hello RC members and supporters

A big thanks to you all for your support this year, membership has risen, funds have improved and events have been really well attended. We hope you have enjoyed your membership and will continue to support the riding club.

If anyone has any different ideas for events, horse or non horse orientated please let us know by emailing the suggestion box at moretonridingclub@gmail.com.

PAST EVENTS

Dartmoor Pony Training Centre = open day = 1st Oct 2011.

DPTC were really pleased with how well this event went and were very grateful for the use of the arena. There were plenty of people to watch the various events going on, at least 1 pony was able to be rehomed with many enquiries about others. For more info www.dptc.org.uk .

Sharon’s Ride 2nd Oct 2011

A great day, really hot weather attended by 20 riders.

We had the choice of an 8 mile or 3 mile ride starting at the arena, the route was over fields, through woods and some lanes, and finished in Sharon’s paddock with pasties, cake and cider. £66 being raised for club funds. Thank you to all land owners for allowing us to ride over their land.

A huge thank you to Sharon and her helpers for organising it, we had a really nice time.

Show Jumping

We put a course of show jumps up again for a few days during October half term, for people to use as they wished. The surface was quite wet owing to the torrential rain in the previous few days, but the weather for the second half of the week improved a lot, encouraging a number of people to make use of the jumps. Thanks again to those who came to help put them up and take them down again!

Pony Pathways

Our younger members and friends have continued to enjoy Pony Pathways. With the darker evenings it is now held on alternate Saturday afternoons at the arena and there is a dismounted evening group at Beelands every other Friday evening.

For further details contact Sarah on 07879856778

This is a gentle hack suitable for all ages + LR and festive decorations for horses and riders are appreciated! "Dartmoor Pony Training Centre

The DPTC are a small voluntary organisation based just outside of Moretonhampstead. As well as taking on and rehoming Dartmoor Hill Ponies the organisation offers support and advice for people taking on semi-feral ponies. They run a yearly wild foal handling course with Sarah Weston, an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Associate in Widecombe-in-the-Moor.

The DPTC are desperately looking for homes for ponies at the Centre. They range from 2 1/2 years old to 12 years old and are mostly very well handled though not yet started for riding or driving. The centre's voluntary staff are busy getting started with the older ponies so may be able to offer rideable ponies at some point soon. They are also looking for volunteers able to help with training, admin, fundraising, publicity, field maintenance and pony care... Oh and if anyone has any spare hay they'd like to donate for the winter that'd be great (!!!!)

They are hoping to hold an open day at MRC in September for their supporters, people interested in taking on a pony and also those interested in getting involved. The date is waiting to be confirmed but should be Sunday the 11th or 18th of September.
